I haven't updated in a few days, mainly because I haven't been playing at all. My confidence was at an all-time low, and I felt I couldn't win even if I played 4nl. I didn't think it was +ev at all to play with that kind of mindset.
It's been nice to take a break, and I feel like my mind is clearing out again and my confidence is returning. Will probably start playing again Sunday or Monday, and will definitely update when I do.

Grind-a-thon tonight
Played a bit more 4nl and dropped another buy-in. Not really any big hands, just losing NSD winnings.
Decided i'm going to try to put in a 5-6 hour session tonight. The games are just ridiculously softer at that time, and I really want to work on making my money back. Not sure which stakes i'll be playing (a 25nl tilt session is very possible at this point :) ) but the plan is to get in some serious volume.

Decided to stick to my plan of playing 30 minutes of 4nl to warm up before playing 10nl. Played 372 hands and lost 4 1/2 buy-ins. It was pretty annoying to constantly get coolered, but as strange as it sounds, it actually made me feel better about 10nl. If I can drop almost 5 buy-ins in 400 hands at a stake i know i'm a winner at, then I should really man up and forget about my 10nl downswing.

Signs of hope
Finally had a decent session at 10nl yesterday. I was actually pretty life-tilted about how things have been going so far. It's strange that even when you can easily see you're running bad, how much confidence you can lose. With my confidence so low, I didn't really want to play 10nl, and didn't even really want to bring myself to play 4nl.
However, somehow I managed to open up Merge and load some 4nl. Played for about an hour, made a little over a buy-in and took a cigarette break. The whole time I was outside smoking, I was just debating with myself wheter I should just keep grinding 4nl or load 10nl instead. I was still feeling pretty down about poker, and told myself "I finally had a winning session today (at 4nl lol) but I know if I play 10nl i'm just going to lose a few buy-ins and regret the decision". I'm not the most optimistic person in the world, but it's pretty unusual for me to be this down about poker. I know i'm not great, but can't remember being this depressed about sngs at any point.
Either way, I finally decided that if the 10nl lobby looked good, I would play that. Went back inside and saw that the 10nl games looked very juicy, so it was time to call my bluff and play. It ended up being a great decision. Loaded up a bunch of tables and all the table averages ended up being 30/x at least. Even saw one table that something like 43/9 which is insane for Merge. I can't even remember ever seeing a 4nl table like that before. So I guess saturday's are my new grind time. I didn't play many hands as I should have, since I got a call from some friends to hang out. Even though I was running well and the games were soft, I still thought a break from poker would be the most +ev decision.
I also think playing a bit of 4nl before my 10nl sessions might be a good idea. With sng's I never needed to do anything like that since everything was so automatic. However, with cash I sometimes need a bit of time to warm up and get in the zone. It was also helpful to play 4nl first and get into that "I don't care about results, i'm just going to play my game" mindset, then bring that mindset to 10nl. I guess it's sort of like stretching before serious exercise. So I might start with 4nl for 30-45 minutes from now on, then switch to 10nl for the rest of the day.
Also played a bit of 4plo last night. Started off losing a bit, but then ran pretty good at the end. I don't have the plo version of hem so i'm not sure what my exact results were, but i'm 90% sure I was within $1 of breaking even.

Computer Issues
I'm writing this from my laptop because for some reason the keyboard on my desktop won't work today. I turned it on and tried to enter my password but the keys wouldn't do anything. After restarting a few times and having the same problem, I got frustrated and hit a bunch of keys and noticed some of them worked. The "delete" key was typing something (not sure what since all I saw were "*") and other keys were actually deleting.
Hopefully it's an issue with my keyboard and not the computer itself. One of my friends is going to stop by in a couple hours with his keyboard, so i'll hopefully be able to figure out what the problem is. I would just play on my laptop but I don't even have HEM installed there, and don't really want to deal with it today. A break from poker is probably what I need anyway. Maybe i'll just take a couple hours to watch some videos and try to figure out why i'm getting crushed so badly at 10nl.

Royal Flush Bonus FTW
I have only played about 300 hands of 10nl so far today, but I had to report on the epicness that just happened. I've hit royal flushes in sng's/mtt's in the past on Stars/Tilt which wern't really a big deal. However, since I started playing cash on Merge, I was aware they had a promotion where if you hit a royal at a cash table, you would get a 100 bb bonus by sending in the hh. So far in my ~140k hands on Merge I had yet to hit one.
Well, as fate would have it, today was my day. A loose opener raised utg and i flatted from the button with AdJd. I was already fist-pumping when the flop came down QdTdKc. Flopping the nuts with a royal flush draw is always nice. The raiser led and I flatted. The turn came the Kd completeing my royal flush and a I shit a brick when he checked. Really didn't know what to do since I wanted to get paid from my royal. Sounds dumb that after so much poker experience I would freeze up in a spot where I had the nuts, but i'm sure a lot of you can understand the feeling of "I better not fuck this up" lol.
Since I already knew I had the $10 bonus locked up, I figured betting was the best idea so I bet about 2/3 pot and he called. River was the 9h which turned out to be the gin card for me. The villian led out for ~$3, i shipped, he called. He ended up having JJ for a rivered straight. I don't think he could have played that hand worse. Not only is his turn call pretty terrible, but his river call is never good after I ship. I'm not complaining though, I hope to see him again :)
I guess I would have been happy even if he had folded the turn since I would have gotten the $10 bonus either way (the only terms of the promotion are that you must win the hand after hitting your royal lol). However, to be able to also stack the guy is pretty fortunate imo. Going to take a break for an hour or so, then get back to the grind. Hope everyone's running as good as me today :)

Variance gets its revenge
After running good yesterday, I ran 4 buy-ins below ev today, which puts me 1 buy-in below between yesterday and today. Was pretty happy with how I played but just kept getting sucked out on. kk<ak aipf, aq<a8 on aax, and a bunch of others. Oh well, nothing I can do but try again tomorrow, there has to be a heater around the corner.
Also, 4plo went pretty good last night. I could only get 3 decent 6-max tables running, so I ended up starting a new one. I ran good for once and a massive fish sat down. The action was so good I ended up closing out the other tables. After stacking him 3 times in ~10 minutes (he was buying in for $3.50 lol) I was worried he would leave. I started chatting to him in the chat box and saying the fishiest stuff I could think of to make him think I was just running good. I guess it convinced him, because everytime someone tried to join the table he would sit out and type "HU please". I ended up playing him for about 200 hands until I got sick of playing. So without warning, I just randomly closed out of the table without saying a word. Probably a bad idea, since he would most likely want to play again in the future, but I didn't want him to guilt trip me into staying if I told him I was leaving. Ended up making about $10 from him which is decent for 1 tabling 4plo, especially since I was watching tv and drinking at the same time
